Overview of Academic Programs

A program to suit your interior design education needs

The college offers three undergraduate degree programs: the 120-credit Bachelor of Arts in the History of the Interior and Decorative Arts (BA), the professional-level 132-credit Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design (BFA), and the pre-professional 66-credit Associate in Applied Science in Interior Design (AAS). Both the BFA and AAS degree programs, in conjunction with the requisite work experience, prepare graduates to sit for the NCIDQ exam leading to state certification.

A 24-credit nondegree certificate program, Basic Interior Design, is offered for those who need to develop a portfolio in order to apply to the undergraduate degree programs (AAS, BFA) or for those seeking personal enrichment and entry-level job opportunities in fields related to interior design.

The Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design First-Professional Level program is formulated to provide students who possess a baccalaureate degree in an unrelated field with an advanced degree containing the professional level education to become licensed interior design practitioners. The focus of this full-time, 90-credit program is on the development of the ability to formulate, propose, and carry out design solutions in a safe, sustainable, and aesthetically pleasing way.

The Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design Post-Professional Level program is a full-time 60-credit program for the applicant who already has an undergraduate degree in architecture or interior design or in a closely related field. The program focuses on advanced studio and academic research in history, theory, and methods as they relate to an interdisciplinary approach to interiors and design.

The Master of Professional Studies in Sustainable Interior Environments (MPS) is a one-year post-professional program focused on specialized knowledge, thinking, and skills, structured to prepare design professionals to assume leadership roles in developing and maintaining sustainable interior spaces that will positively impact the world.
