FINANCIAL AIDMost financial aid dollars in the United States, in loans, grants, and work-study, are from federal and state programs and are awarded to US citizens and permanent residents who qualify according to the financial aid program’s criteria. Standards for satisfactory academic progress are measured once per academic year according to federal regulations. NYSID institutional scholarship and fellowship support is available to matriculated students who maintain good academic standing. First-semester students are eligible but must meet the GPA standard of 3.0 for good academic standing on conclusion of their first semester to continue to receive institutional scholarship support. Students should apply for financial aid through the Office of Financial Aid. Students must be formally accepted into a NYSID program prior to being awarded assistance. A NYSID financial aid packet is available by calling (212) 472-1500, ext. 212. Undergraduate Financial AssistanceTo apply, all applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applicants may complete the FAFSA on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. If financial need has been established and adequate funding is available, eligible applicants are considered for federal grant, loan, and work-study programs, NYSID aid, and New York State aid, if applicable. Priority deadlines for submission are May 1 for the fall semester and October 1 for the spring semester. Graduate Financial AssistanceNYSID offers a limited number of graduate fellowships. These fellowships range from $5,000 to $10,000 per academic year and are renewable in the second year provided the student maintains good academic standing. To apply, the applicant should submit a letter detailing reasons for being considered for a fellowship as part of the admissions application. U.S. citizens and permanent residents may also qualify for financial assistance in the form of federal, state, and private loan and grant programs. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should be completed (www.fafsa.ed.gov) in time to reach the Office of Financial Aid no later than March 1 if the student wishes an early notification of aid. Other documents, such as federal tax forms and citizenship documentation, may be requested. If financial need has been established and adequate funding is available, graduate students are considered for NYSID aid, Federal Work-Study and Federal Stafford Loans. |
