Pre-college on Facebook
You are that teen who reads design magazines, who helps her friends rearrange their rooms, who can’t help running his fingers over textiles, and who stops to gaze at fixtures. Is a life in interior design your path? NYSID’s Pre-College program will start you on your way to designing beautiful spaces that improve peoples’ lives.
This program, taught by the same established designers who teach in our undergraduate and graduate programs, will immerse you in the practice of interior design. You’ll study color, materials, architectural drawing and digital media. You’ll be taught and advised by a professional in an introductory design studio. You’ll visit design firms and museums, and spend your down-time hanging out in the nation’s design capital. This program will build your portfolio, answer questions about your future, and a give you head start in interior design. Students receive one undergraduate credit for completion of this course.
The Pre-College program is open to high-school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Housing is available for additional fee (summer only), and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Pre-College Summer 2014 Scholarship Competition: Make Room!
NYSID is hosting a competition open to summer 2014 Pre-College students — create your dream room! This could be any kind of room (bedroom, kitchen, library, etc.) that reflects your interests as well as your sense of style. We are looking for a room design that shows a strong use of space, a great sense of color, and a unique approach to interior design. The winner will gain free tuition to the Pre-College program this summer. This scholarship is open to high school students who will begin their sophomore, junior, or senior year in fall 2014.
In order to be considered, please submit the following requirements:
- A collage of your ideal room using magazine cut outs
- A hand rendering of your dream room via pencil, paint or marker
A brief essay (one page typed) explaining your design.
Send images and essay as attachments in one e-mail by May 15 to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Be sure to include your full name in the title of your email (e.g: “John Doe’s room images & essay”).
This scholarship is for Pre-College tuition only and cannot be applied to other costs associated with the program. In order to register for the Pre-College program, you must pay the full tuition amount. As space is limited in the program, we do not recommend waiting for scholarship decisions before registering. If you are a scholarship recipient, the tuition cost will be refunded to you.
