Alumni Mentorship Program
Now in its fourth year, NYSID has implemented an Alumni Mentorship program which is available to all students. The students received unique access to a designer and received valuable advice, encouragement and guidance, and the mentors learned a few things as well! Participation for alumni is by invitation, and for students by an application that includes a resume together with a 500 word essay explaining why they would benefit from the mentorship opportunity. If you’d like to be a mentor please contact Samantha Fingleton, NYSID Alumni Relations Associate. And please do not count yourself out if you do not live in or near NYC. We have had mentorships that have worked using Skype, Facetime or other platforms. We just know that NYSID students could learn so much from you! Sign up now to be a mentor for the 2017-18 year!

Alumni Panel Discussion
Wednesday, April 12, 6pm
As the NYSID’s centennial year comes to an end, we take the time to look at the past, present, and future of the interior design industry through the eyes of our alumni. With NYSID as their springboard, this panel will discuss their own experiences within the field and the roll that an education in interior design played. Susan Zises Green will moderate a discussion with David Kleinberg, Timothy Whealon, and Ann Pyne.
On February 2nd and 3rd, Students participated in the PropNSpoon Project. PropNSpoon a leading prop supplier to the entertainment and creative industries hosted the event, volunteering their inventory for an educational design for NYSID students. Two competing teams of design students from NYSID, created fully conceived spaces, drawing on the vast inventory of more than a thousand pieces. Three New York City Designers Served as Judges in Competition: Arlene Angard (NYSID Alum), Douglas Clark, and Peter Valcarcel. Team winners will have their work featured on PropNSpoon’s site.
Student Participants included BFA students, May Ghandanfar, Felix Guzman, Alexis Wachtel and MFA-1 students, Julie Tiseo, Dominique Law and David Hemphill. I have spoken with the students and they really enjoyed the experience. We have also had correspondence with Arlene who was very pleased with the outcome and with our students!
