Financial Aid & Scholarship Coordinator

Position Overview:  The New York School of Interior Design, an accredited, independent institution of higher education devoted entirely to the discipline of interior design and its related professions, seeks an individual to serve as Financial Aid and Scholarship Coordinator. Reporting to the Dean of Students and working closely with NYSID’s Financial Aid consultant, the Financial Aid and Scholarship Coordinator will administer all aspects of student financial aid programs and services. The Financial Aid and Scholarship Coordinator will provide counseling to all students and parents on the financial aid process as well as develop presentations and conduct information sessions for current and prospective students. Additionally, the Financial Aid and Scholarship Coordinator will work closely with the Admissions Office to set strategies for recruitment and enrollment. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Administer all aspects of the Financial Aid process
  • Counsel and advise students/parents in person, online and by phone on the application process and available aid options
  • Continually follow up with students to ensure completion of all required steps
  • Generate all financial aid correspondence: award letters, missing document letters, verification requests, citizenship clarification, disbursement notifications and other documents as needed
  • Oversee the verification process – create new forms each academic year according to requirements determined by the Department of Education
  • Collect and analyze all financial aid documents submitted by student and parents and communicate with family if any required changes are needed
  • Collaborate with Office of Bursar to assist in collection of student payments, confirming awards and determining course of action needed for outstanding balance
  • Manage all aspects of federal work study program including communicating with departments on available positions, announcing job opportunities, assigning positions, tracking and monitoring hours worked and earnings
  • Ensure student aid eligibility by monitoring enrollment status and troubleshoot as required
  • Liaise with consultant to monitor Satisfactory Academic Progress for all students, coordinate appeal process and make determinations on award eligibility
  • Monitor adherence of policies and procedures to assure regulatory compliance
  • Keep appraised of new laws, regulations and enforce changes and update students, administration and faculty accordingly
  • Review and revise policies to best serve the students
  • Set all deadlines, policies and procedures for the student financial process
  • Working with other NYSID offices manage and oversee the endowed and annual scholarship budget
  • Work in conjunction with the Admissions Office on new student scholarship awards
  • Oversee and manage returning student scholarship awards
  • Develop a department strategic plan to align with the institutional plan 
  • Assist at recruiting and other campus events such as Open House and Orientation
  • Certify private loan applications, run cred PLUS loan credit checks, clarify unusual enrollment history flags
  • Coordinate financial aid for Part Time Study (APTS)
  • Develop, maintain and update financial aid information in all publications, website, portal etc.
  • Develop effective written financial aid information materials
  • Work with the Consultant to develop full working knowledge of the back end of the financial aid processing including data systems, system tools and budgets, reporting, origination and disbursement of grants and loans
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Admissions or Financial Aid Office required. 1-2 years’ experience with Title IV aid. 1-2 years’ experience with PowerFaids or similar systems. Must possess good communication and customer service skills; must be comfortable speaking in front of groups. Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented and ability to multi-task and manage priorities. Competent with Microsoft Office applications. Experience working with Jenzabar a plus.
