Job Title:  Financial Aid Manager

Position Overview:  The New York School of Interior Design, an accredited, independent institution of higher education devoted entirely to the discipline of interior design and its related professions, seeks an individual to serve as Financial Aid Manager.   Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Financial Aid Manager develops and implements financial aid policies and procedures that support the school’s mission and maintains regulatory compliance.  This person executes the day to day responsibilities of the office and provides strategic insight into the financial aid process.  Administering all aspects of student financial aid programs and services, the Financial Aid Manager works closely and effectively with departments across the School, advises current and prospective students and their families regarding financial aid, develops presentations, conducts information sessions and establishes and regulates procedures and polices in compliance with current federal, state and institutional guidelines.  The Financial aid Manager will work with the Dean of Students to provide support in the review of scholarship applications for awards of the endowed and annual scholarships.  

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage, organize, direct and guide the day-to-day operations of the Department of Financial Aid

  • Administer all aspects of the Financial Aid process

  • Oversee the management and regulatory compliance of SEOG and Federal Work Study program

  • Oversee disbursement of SEOG and Federal Work Study funds

  • Monitor maintenance and supervision of Federal and State electronic processes and the completion of required electronic reports and reconciliation, including FISAP and IPEDS

  • Prepare and deliver, in a timely fashion all Financial Aid Compliance Audits and Program Review

  • Working with NYSID Information Technology staff, provide maintenance and oversight of data systems, including long range plans and implementation of system tools to improve service, manage budgets, reporting and distribution of Federal and State Programs

  • Oversee the processing of loans through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program and provide regulatory guidance and supervision, including origination and disbursement of Federal Direct Loans

  • Oversee RT4 calculations and Standard Academic Progress Reports

  • Oversee regulatory compliance and certification of TAP and APTS

  • Oversee current updates of COD, G5, HESC, NSLDS, ED Connect

  • Provide data reporting and assessment of financial aid services and other institutional aid analysis to NYSID’s Dean of Students and Director of Institutional Research as needed

  • Working with the Bursar and other applicable NYSID Administrators, reconcile records with institutional database (Jenzabar)

  • Generate all financial aid correspondence: award letters, missing document letters, verification requests, citizenship clarification, disbursement notifications and other documents as needed

  • Oversee the verification process – create new forms each academic year according to requirements determined by the Department of Education.

  • Manage all aspects of federal work study program including communicating with departments on available positions, announcing job opportunities, assigning positions, tracking and monitoring hours worked and earnings

  • Ensure student aid eligibility by monitoring enrollment status and troubleshoot as required

  • Monitor Satisfactory Academic Progress for all students, coordinate appeal process and make determinations on award eligibility

  • Keep appraised of new laws, regulations and enforce changes and update students, administration and faculty accordingly

  • Review and revise policies to best serve the students

  • Working with the Dean of Students, provide support in the review of scholarship applications for awards from the endowed and annual scholarship budget

  • Develop a department strategic plan to align with the institutional plan

  • Assist at recruiting and other campus events such as Open House and Orientation

  • Certify private loan applications, run cred PLUS loan credit checks, clarify unusual enrollment history flags

  • Develop, maintain and update financial aid information in all publications, website, portal etc…

  • Develop effective written financial aid information materials

  • Other duties as assigned


Bachelor’s degree required with five years related experience required.  Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations.  Most possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent leadership and organizational skills, customer service-oriented attitude, function effectively as part of a team, detail oriented, ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and manage priorities.   Must be comfortable speaking in front of groups.  Competent with Microsoft Office applications.  Experience using PowerFAIDS.  Experience working with Jenzabar a plus.
