On October 1, NYSID hosted a reception to celebrate the opening of our fall exhibition, “Mid-Century Maestro: The Textiles of Boris Kroll.”
Notable art, interior design, mid-century modern fans and textile lovers came (see Flickr set of guests and the show here) to celebrate industry icon Boris Kroll, whose eponymous firm revolutionized commercial and residential textile design with both bright colors and innovative weave technology.
NYSID president David Sprouls spoke about the beauty and innovation of Kroll’s work and Steven Stolman, president of Scalamandré reminisced about living with Boris Kroll fabrics as a child and his delight in sharing the long-hidden archives with the public.
The Boris Kroll exhibit will be on view at NYSID until December 7, 2013 at the NYSID Gallery, 161 E 69th Street, New York. For more mid-century design, our “Return of the Classics: Timeless Mid-Century Design” lecture on Wednesday, October 30th promises to give more insight on this favorite period in design history with a panel moderated by Donald Albrecht, curator of architecture and design, Museum of the City of New York, with guest experts Susan Lyons, president, Designtex; Steven Stolman, president of Scalamandré Inc.; and Larry Weinberg, 20th-century design historian and dealer..
