Creating Beauty, Changing Lives: The Artisans of The Alpha Workshops

  • Arthur Satz Auditorium, New York School of Interior Design 170 East 70th Street New York, NY, 10021 United States (map)

This lecture features the people behind Alpha Workshops, the nation’s only nonprofit organization providing decorative arts education and employment to at-risk youths and adults with disabilities or other vulnerabilities.

In this presentation, Paul Kratz, Sales Director, and Erik Savage, Ed Farrell and Russell van Peterson, Alpha Workshop Studio Managers will discuss the decorative arts services they offer interior designers and architects, including custom decorative paint and plaster finishes, gilding, and on-site art installations. Alpha artisans also produce unique hand-painted wallpapers, custom furniture and lighting, all made to specification and available through select showrooms. Some of the stunning special projects created by Alpha and featured in the presentation include: the recreation of an historically accurate faux marble floor in Gracie Mansion's grand entryway and an intensive restoration of the Prince George Hotel ballroom, including mold-making, casting, gilding and decorative painting.
