Design Education that Fits Your Life

We’re experts at preparing interior designers for professional success, whether you’re looking to kick off a new career or sharpen a specific set of skills. We are consistently ranked one of the top interior design schools in the U.S. by DesignIntelligence.

If you’re ready for an overall introduction to the field of interior design, our one-year Basic Interior Design certificate program might be for you. Although it’s a non-degree program, your credits here can be applied to an Associate in Applied Science in Interior Design or Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design degree. You can take classes part-time or full-time, and you can participate on-site or online. No portfolio required.

In the two-year Associate in Applied Science in Interior Design degree program—which can be done full-time or part-time, on-site or online—you’ll master some of the fundamental skills required to be a practicing interior designer in both residential and commercial design.

Combining a comprehensive interior design curriculum with a strong liberal arts education, our professional-level Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design program offers a rich and memorable college experience – the kind only New York can offer. You’ll leave the program fully prepared to start your interior design career. You can study part-time or full-time, on-site or online.

Building Blocks

Each of our undergraduate offerings feeds into the next. If you’re not quite ready to commit to the BFA program, you can begin with a certificate or an associate’s degree. The credits you earn can be applied directly toward a BFA if and when you choose to continue with your education.

Graduate Programs

Transforming Designers into Leaders

If you already have a bachelor’s degree in interior design or architecture, you can pursue a professional-level master’s degree; get a specialty advanced degree in healthcare, lighting, or sustainability; or if you’re thinking of going back to school to kick-start a career in interior design, we’ll help you put together a course of study that fits your life and puts you on the road to professional success.

If you have a bachelor’s degree in a field unrelated to design, our Master of Fine Arts in Interior Design is a full-time program that provides a comprehensive interior design education in just three years. No portfolio required to apply.

Are you interested in exploring interior design on a deeper level and aspire to become a leader in the field? The two-year, full-time, Post-professional Master of Fine Arts program is the most conceptual program at NYSID and is open to those who have a professional degree in interior design, architecture, or a related field.

The healthcare industry is rapidly expanding to accommodate the growing needs of the aging baby boomer generation and the global population explosion. In response, NYSID has created the innovative, interdisciplinary Master of Professional Studies in Design of Healthcare Environments program that provides designers an opportunity to learn from practicing healthcare designers, engineers, Capital Projects team members in healthcare institutions, and healthcare environment researchers.

Ever evolving software tools are driving designers to use more efficient techniques to coordinate between design and construction processes. NYSID’s post‐professional Master of Professional Studies in Digital Practice Management — the first and only one in the nation — will prepare working professionals to lead digital project management for design firms. Using various software programs, students will learn how to develop best practice workflows to achieve the most efficient design, documentation and construction coordination.

Changing technologies, new energy efficiency laws, and the demand for inspired, innovative solutions have created a strong need for specialists in interior lighting design. This one-year Master of Professional Studies in Lighting Design program must be completed full-time, with all classes offered in the evenings and on weekends. You can study on-site or online with live classes delivered via videoconferencing.
