Compliance Disclosures from the New York School of Interior Design

The New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) is publicly posting the following information as part of the College’s reporting requirements under CRRSAA and ARP(a)(1) programs. Under the CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) programs, student portion funds must be used to provide financial aid grants to students (including students exclusively enrolled in distance education) which may be used for any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care), or child care.

1.       An acknowledgement that the institution signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used the applicable amount of funds designated under the CRRSAA and ARP(a)(1) and (a)(4) programs to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

NYSID acknowledges that it signed and returned to the Department of Education the Certification and Agreement on May 21, 2020. CSS will use the applicable amount of funds designated under the CRRSAA and ARP(a)(1) and (a)(4) programs to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students. The applicable amount of funds designated for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under CRRSAA and ARP has been distributed as of July 1, 2021.

 2.       The total amount of funds that the institution will receive or has received from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs.

NYSID received $58,625 under CRRSAA for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

NYSID received $216,930 under ARP or Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.

3.       The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under the CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs as of the date of submission (i.e., as of the initial report and every calendar quarter thereafter).

Under CRRSAA, NYSID has distributed $58,625 of Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

Under ARP, NYSID has distributed $216,930 of Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

4.       The estimated total number of students at the institution that are eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs.

NYSID CSS estimates 164 students are eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants under CRRSAA and ARP.

5.       The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under the CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs.

As of July 1, 164 students have received Emergency Financial Aid Grants under CRRSAA and ARP. 

6.       The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under the CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs.

Institutions have been charged with prioritizing students with exceptional need.  In that regard, NYSID completed and analysis of all students who submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and established parameters for the allocation of the funds as follows:

    • Students enrolled in onsite or online programs during the 2020-2021 academic year

    • Undergraduate Pell recipients

    • Graduate Students with an Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) of zero dollars

    • Undergraduate and Graduate students with unmet need in their financial aid profile

    • Individual grant award determined by tuition credit billed in the last semester enrolled

7.       Any instructions, directions, or guidance provided by the institution to students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants.

Prior to the distribution of CRRSAA and ARP funds, electronic correspondence was sent to every recipient explaining the following:

  • The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) is designated to assist students with covering cost of attendance or emergency costs related to tuition, food, housing, health care, or child care.

  • The payment will be received by check

  • The payment will be received by July 16

CARES ACT – Section 18004(a)(1)

NYSID signed and submitted the Certification and Agreement to the U.S. Department of Education on May 21, 2020. NYSID assures that no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act will be used to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

Pursuant to NYSID’s Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students, NYSID received $58,625 to be allocated as emergency grants to students.  

As of 06/22/2020 (submission of the 30-day report), the total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is $58,625.

The estimated total number of students eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act because they are eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 is approximately 243.

The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 69.

NYSID has completed an analysis of all Title IV students to establish parameters for the allocation of the Emergency Financial Aid Grants under Section 18004 (a)(1) of the CARES Act as follows:

  • Equal distribution of total federal allocation between undergraduate and graduate students

  • Undergraduate Pell recipients

  • Graduate Students with an Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) of zero dollars

  • Individual refund amount determined by credit enrollment, resulting in supplemental aid in the amount of 6.46% of each tuition dollar paid per student.

Information provided by NYSID to students regarding the Emergency Financial Aid Grants under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act includes the following:
