Archtober is New York City’s Architecture and Design Month, the eighth annual month-long festival of architecture activities, programs and exhibitions taking place during the month of October.
Archtober presents special tours, lectures, programs and exhibitions that focus on the importance of architecture and design in everyday life. Organized by the Center for Architecture in collaboration with 60+ partner organizations across the city, the festival raises awareness of the important role of design in our city and the richness of New York’s built environment.
Archtober 2018 Events
James Stewart Polshek, designer, public advocate and educator, is in the sixth decade of his architectural career. In all three of these areas he has provided an inspirational template for generations of architects. In 1963 he founded James Stewart Polshek Architects, which ultimately became the internationally recognized Polshek Partnership Architects. In 2010, the partners renamed the firm Ennead Architects; Mr. Polshek is Design Counsel to Ennead Architects.
A panel discussion highlighting the stories of women in the fields of architecture and interior design, throughout history to the present day. Panelists include Victoria Rosner and Mary McLeod. In addition to being professors at Columbia University, Rosner and McLeod launched Pioneering Women of American Architecture in early 2018 with the support of the Beverly Willis Architecture Foundation. They will be joined by Tamara Eaton of Tamara Eaton LLC Designs, along with Mimi Hoang, co-founder and Principal of nARCHITECTS.
