NYSID Alums Contribute to 2012 Kips Bay Showhouse

Each year, the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Decorator Show House is one of the most anticipated interior design events in New York City, with celebrated interior designers transforming a luxury Manhattan home into an elegant exhibition of fine furnishings, art, and technology. This year is especially exciting because it marks the 40th anniversary of the event and it will be held for the first time at The Aldyn, a pristine luxury residential building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.

Over the course of four decades, this project has raised in excess of $17 million for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club - an organization that has worked to improve and enhance the lives of the New York City children who are economically, socially or recreationally disadvantaged.

We are proud that the work of a number of NYSID alumni and advisory board members will be featured in this year’s Kips Bay Decorator Show House: Bunny Williams— a long-time advisory board member at NYSID who is also this year’s Show House Chair— will design a room, as will alumnus and advisory board member Charles Pavarini III (BFA 1981), who is also serving as the Chairman of the Show House Designer’s Committee. NYSID alumnus David Scott (BFA 1992) will also be showing his design talents in one of the show rooms. You can read a profile of him in The New York Times about his love of decorative boxes and his upcoming book, Outside the Box, published by Pointed Leaf Press.

Thirty-two designers in all will be decorating rooms throughout The Alden in their preferred styles and themes. It’s an event that’s not to be missed!

The Kips Bay Decorator Show House will be open to the public May 16 through June 14, 2012 (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 11 – 5pm; Tuesday & Thursday 11am – 8pm, and Sunday 12 – 5pm).
