NYSID Students Win 2025 Angelo Donghia Foundation Scholarships

Frida Jansholt and Monica Bittenbender

Frida Jansholt and Monica Bittenbender, two Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design (BFA) students at the New York School of Interior Design, were announced as winners of the Angelo Donghia Foundation's 2025 Student Scholarship Program in Interior Design. This prestigious $30,000 award recognizes undergraduate students enrolled in their final year of a full-time bachelor's program in interior design at an accredited institution, providing support to future leaders in the field as they complete their studies. The Angelo Donghia Foundation, Inc. was established by internationally recognized interior designer Angelo Donghia.

As part of the competition, Jansholt and Bittenbender each submitted an innovative design project. Jansholt designed Spectrum Pathways, a preschool that provides a supportive and inclusive environment for children with autism spectrum disorder, striking a balance between structure and freedom. She explains that her concept of “Structured → Unstructured” informs the layout of the school, with “a safe framework that gently opens into spaces for creativity and independence.” With sensory-sensitive features like acoustic treatments, biophilic design, adaptive furniture, and a custom treehouse with calming pods, every detail fosters focus, security, and exploration. This inclusive environment celebrates each child’s unique way of experiencing the world.

Bittenbender designed a branded hotel for Aesop, the luxury cosmetics brand, that provides an elevated customer experience in a refined and serene space marked by a warm palette with natural materials and textures that bring a sense of connection to nature. She utilizes natural light to create a calm, contemplative atmosphere that aligns with Aesop’s philosophy of elegance and sophistication. She describes her project, “Every detail, from the textures to the furniture, is chosen to balance beauty and comfort. Natural light and open spaces are thought to make the environment feel welcoming and easy, offering guests a timeless retreat where they can truly unwind.”
