Shannon M. Leddy, Allied ASID, IDEC
 
 

Shannon is principal of her firm, Shannon M. Leddy Interior Design and has been working in the profession for over 20 years as an interior designer. Shannon achieved an MA in Sustainable Interior Environments and BFA in Interior Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology.  She is a past board member of the ASID NY Metro Chapter. During the 2021 Commencement ceremony, Shannon was awarded The Breger Faculty Achievement Award, the highest honor the College bestows upon faculty members.

Randi is an NCIDQ certified interior designer with more than 25 years of professional experience.  She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Interior Design from New York Institute of Technology and studied Lighting Design at Parsons School of Design. Prior to starting her own interior design practice in 2006, Randi was the director of interior design with Bogdanow Partners Architects from 1990 to 2005.

Associate Dean Daniel Harper has primary oversight of the undergraduate programs. His responsibilities will extend into aspects of every degree program. Harper brings a wealth of experience as a designer, an academic administrator, a researcher, a professor, and an expert in evidence-based design. He has a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education Administration from Ohio University, and a Master of Interior Design from Harrington College of Design. A design educator since 2006, he served as assistant dean for the College of Fine Arts at Ohio University, and most recently, was the professor who chaired the interior architecture programs there. He has published extensive research, including a co-authored book on makerspaces in academic libraries called Academic Library Makerspaces: A Practical Guide to Planning, Collaborating, and Supporting Campus Innovation. His current research is focused on interior designers as leaders. He has presented his research at conferences all over the world. He began his career as a design practitioner for 14 years in commercial and healthcare design. He’s also an award-winning textile artist who creates art quilts. “I believe in leadership as service,” says Harper. “I’m here to support our students and the faculty through the rollout of a new curriculum, initiatives to increase and strengthen diversity and inclusion, program accreditation/reaccreditation, new program development, expanding study abroad…just to name a few priorities.”

Harry Heissmann

After obtaining a Masters of Interior Design degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, Germany, Harry arrived in the United States in 1995. He gained extensive experience working for some of the city’s most respected firms and spent nine years in the offices of Albert Hadley, who dubbed his desk ‘the magic shop’ before opening his own eponymous firm.

Published in various magazines and books, Harry loves to contribute to charities and has participated in several show houses.

AC has over 30 years’ experience in lighting design and project management in both performing arts and architectural lighting design.  Since the merger of ACH/LD with DGA in 1999, AC’s focus has been on large-scale, fast-track and/or complex efforts in transportation, security, exterior and theatre facility projects.  She has served on the faculties of Teachers College-Columbia, University of Illinois at Urbana and the New York School of Interior Design, lectured at CCNY and is an authorized instructor of AGi32.

Joseph is a life safety consultant with a decade of professional experience on  projects throughout the United States as well as in the Middle East and Far East. He is theauthor/illustrator of one book on the International Building Code. He has a BA/BS in Architecture from the University of Houston.

Steven Gerber, a graduate of Pratt Institute, has been an instructor of Visual Concepts and Elements of Rendering at NYSID for over 20 years. He is also a founding member and manager of City Lights Gallery, a non-profit arts center in Bridgeport, CT, as well as an artist specializing in architectural illustrations and multi-media art.

Eric is a registered architect and a past VP of Governmental and Regulatory Affairs for the IIDA as well as serving as a past residential forum director for the IIDA. He is a Manhattan Community Board 5 member, serving on the Land Use and Zoning Committee and as co-chair for the Landmarks Committee.  He is founder and principal of Eric Joseph Gering Architect, and has taught both undergraduate and graduate studios at NYSID for the past 15 years. He received his Master of Architecture from Yale University.

Bill is an alumnus of NYSID and a painter in the Chelsea/Highline District in NYC (see williamengel.net for more information). His collaborative art/design work has been published in The New York TimesInterior Design, and Dwell magazines, to name a few. His works hangs in the corporate lobby of Time Warner Center on Columbus Circle. His new book, Portfolio Design for Interiors coauthored with Harold Linton is available wherever books are sold.

Basar Erdener has professional experience in fields of light, lighting product design and lighting research for over fifteen years. He worked in the team to design the master lighting plan for the world renowned IceHotel® in Sweden in 2007 and later worked in Vienna/Austria as a product designer where he designed LED products for Zumtobel. He continues his career in the field of lighting as the Director of Product Management and Marketing for LED Linear, a Fagerhult Group Company. He is recognized as “40under40: Future Leaders in Lighting”, holds four US patents for innovative lighting systems, and he is the recipient of the national Robert Bruce Thompson Luminaire Design Award 2011, the RPI Elevator Pitch Competition 2011 and Targetti Light Tales Award in 2009. He has interest in energy, biology, sustainability, and human-centered design. He holds a M.Arch degree from Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and M.Sc from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Rene is an interior designer, architect, and graduate of NYSID, and has taught at the College since 1998. He teaches the popular Furniture Design courses as well as undergraduate Residential Design I, II, and III and graduate design studios. He has worked as a designer at John Saladino, Inc., Thierry Despont, Ltd, and was director of design at Baker Furniture and the McGuire Furniture Company. He currently serves as the faculty representative on NYSID’s Board of Trustees.

Joseph is the principal and founder of JGArchitects, a firm that specializes in architectural interiors. He has designed office spaces for consulates and permanent missions to the United Nations and corporations such as AIG, Kawasaki, Goldman Sachs, Nippon Telephone & Telegraph, and Siemens. He has also designed projects for the Chelsea Arts District Gallery, Cuban Art Space, Cakeshop, Laugh Lounge, and a number of private residences. Goldstein has taught design studio courses at NYSID since 2004.
