Department Assistant (Part Time Position)

Position Overview:

The New York School of Interior Design, an accredited, independent, non-profit institution of higher education devoted entirely to the discipline of interior design and its related professions, has an opening for a part-time Department Assistant. The Department Assistant provides administrative support to the Office of Academic Affairs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides administrative support to the daily operations of the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA), which includes, but is not limited to, preparing documents, answering telephone and email inquiries on a daily basis, greeting and directing visitors appropriately, and answering general questions about NYSID and its programs

  • Assists the OAA Administrator with implementing teaching assignments, distribute/collect new hire employment paperwork, input faculty information into database system (Jenzabar), and any other tasks assigned by the OAA Administrator

  • Administers current initiatives such as Study Abroad and PreCollege programs and supports the program directors across OAA

  • Researches new initiatives and organizing ongoing projects for OAA

  • Works with staff to coordinate events, participates in commencement preparation, assists faculty at graduation

  • Works with OAA on class/room scheduling

  • Handles requests for room changes for the faculty in EMS for presentations, juries, etc.

  • Handles Visitor requests and notifications to Facilities

  • Attends Academic Affairs meetings as needed

  • Implements policies, procedures and practices as directed

  • Participates in strategic planning for the Office of Academic Affairs, as needed

  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred. Two or more related years of experience required. Excellent organizational skills, detail oriented and ability to multi-task and manage priorities. Competent with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel. Must possess excellent writing, communication and customer service skills. Experience working with Jenzabar a plus.

Salary: $18.00 per hour

This is a part time position. 16-19 hours per week work schedule.
