Director of Admissions

Position Overview:

The New York School of Interior Design, an accredited, independent institution of higher education devoted entirely to the discipline of interior design and its related professions, seeks an individual to serve as Director of Admissions.

The Director of Admissions is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination and evaluation of admissions and recruitment initiatives and outcomes while providing vision and leadership to the admissions team. The Director will take an active role in strategic planning, institutional committees and partner with all divisions within the college to achieve enrollment goals.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and administer the admission and recruitment programs of the institution; ensuring that admission activities align with the mission and strategic plans of the school

  • Lead and participate in recruiting applicants, screening applications, welcoming, orienting and interviewing prospective students for admissions; make admission decisions.

  • Establish procedures and policies to assure smooth day-to-day operation of the Admissions Office

  • Provide direction for all members of the Admissions team; hire, supervise, train, evaluate, discipline and provide professional opportunities for admissions staff; develop and maintain strong team cohesion

  • Prepare reports for board presentations on admissions statistics and recruitment strategies and events

  • Interface with Financial Aid Office/International Student personnel on policy decisions

  • Assist in the selection of scholarship candidates

  • Prepare and monitor the annual Admissions budget for review by the Budget Committee; track expenditures for services, verify invoice fees and prepare requisitions for items/services; review and approve recruiters’ expense reports

Recruitment

  • Develop, design and implement a recruitment strategy to attract quality students that is consistent with the strategic plan of the school; analyze the recruitment plan and set recruitment goals that are cost effective

  • Plan, organize and supervise all admission travel and recruitment activities and events, including, but not limited to, National/International Portfolio Days, College Fairs, Open Houses and Orientations

  • Coordinate and execute orientation activities for online and onsite students across all programs

  • Develop and oversee a team of alum, faculty and student ambassadors to assist with recruitment and outreach

  • Create outreach programs using ambassadors to assist in the conversion of admitted students to enrolled

  • Schedule all recruitment events

  • Train and prepare recruiters for all activities and events

  • Develop a relationship with select high schools and community colleges for NYSID presentations

Advertising/Marketing

  • Collaborate with Marketing Communications and External Relations (MCE) team to recruit prospective students and achieve enrollment goals

  • Identify new markets or new initiatives to increase new student enrollment

  • Work closely with MCE and Institutional Research to perform market research analysis, conduct student surveys, analyze data, identify target marketing groups and provide enrollment projections

  • Participate and work collaboratively in the creation and development of marketing and recruitment CRM nurture campaigns, publications and website

Enrollment Management

  • Work with all administrative offices to continually assess and improve the admission and enrollment process

  • Responsible for CRM management and oversite including updates and integration with Jenzabar

  • Interface with members of the IT Department on ways to better utilize CRM and the database as well as implementation of other technology related initiatives

Perform all other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Minimum 5 years’ experience in college admissions. Art/design school preferred. Must possess excellent public speaking, strong writing skills, excellent customer service skills, detail oriented and ability to multi-task, manage priorities and work collaboratively. Must have experience in staff management.

Flexibility and willingness to work nights/weekends as required. Must have a valid driver’s license. Competent with Microsoft Office applications. Experience working with Jenzabar, CRM (SLATE) a plus.

Salary: $90,000 - $95,000 + generous benefits
