NYSID ranked the top interior design school in the nation by DesignIntelligence

Ranked #1 for undergraduate programs and #2 for graduate programs

New York, NY – October 3, 2016 – New York School of Interior Design is ranked the top interior design school in the nation, according to a new survey of practitioners by DesignIntelligence. NYSID’s undergraduate interior design program is ranked #1 in the U.S. and the graduate interior design program is ranked #2 in the U.S. for 2017. This is the third year in a row that the College is ranked one of the top five schools in the United States. “It’s an incredible achievement for the institution to receive this accolade,” said NYSID president David Sprouls. “It’s a great recognition of the dedicated team of faculty and staff, immensely talented students and alumni, plus an incredibly supportive board of trustees.”

In addition, NYSID’s vice president for academic affairs and dean Ellen Fisher was named one of the “25 Most Admired Educators for 2016-17,” selected by DesignIntelligence staff with extensive input from thousands of design professionals, academic department heads, and students. The description states, “[Ellen Fisher] has grown the repute of the school while increasing the quality of education. Over her career she has handled conflict situations with tactful and appropriate responses. She has developed strong teams to meet performance goals and bridges residential and commercial interior design with strategic vision.”

DesignIntelligence ranks undergraduate and graduate programs from the perspective of leading practitioners. A total of 2,920 hiring professionals, 145 deans and 3,742 students in the architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, and industrial design disciplines participated in the research. The survey queried participants on the question, “In your firm’s hiring experience in the past five years, which schools are best preparing students for a future in the profession and designing a sustainable future?” In addition, they are queried about additional issues, such as how programs rate in teaching various skills.

The survey was published in DesignIntelligence’s 2017 "America's Best Architecture and Design Schools," which it has published annually since 2000. DesignIntelligence is a publication of the Design Futures Council (DFC), a global interdisciplinary network of design community professionals, including leaders of architecture and design firms, product designers and manufacturers, construction and service providers.
