Suzanne Rheinstein, Jorge Sanchez, and Edwina von Gal to be honored by New York School of Interior Design
New York, NY – March 2, 2018 – The New York School of Interior Design is pleased to announce it will honor Suzanne Rheinstein, owner of HOLLYHOCK, landscape architect Jorge Sanchez, and principal landscape designer of Edwina von Gal + Co., Edwina von Gal at its Annual Gala. The ceremonial event will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at The University Club in New York City. Interior designer, Alexa Hampton; editorial director of Hearst Design Group, Newell Turner; owner of Decorative Antiques Ltd., Betsey Ruprecht; and philanthropist, Maria Spears will serve as the Gala co-chairs.
The Annual Gala recognizes pioneers who epitomize excellence in design with a unique and fresh vision, a sense of history, and the confidence to take an unexpected path.
Interior Designer Suzanne Rheinstein is known for her signature style that is often described as elegant civility—“fewer things but better things”—encompassing a mixture of beautiful objects, furniture styles, personal art, painted surfaces and great attention to comfort, textures, details and light. Suzanne is the owner of Hollyhock, the renowned home furnishings shop known for its unique antiques, decorative accessories and the Hollyhock Home collection, which includes furniture and lighting designed by Suzanne. Suzanne and her work have been featured in numerous regional and national lifestyle publications and blogs. Architectural Digest’s AD100 and Elle Décor’s A-List include her on their rosters.
Jorge Sanchez’s interest in plants, architecture and history has led him to landscape design. SMI Landscape Architecture, Inc. maintains a philosophy which incorporates a “botanical garden” approach fused with the historic and classical formal garden design framework, creating exotic and thoughtful design solutions. In addition to creating beautiful, usable spaces, SMI is also known for its preservation and restoration of old landscapes. SMI is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Arthur Ross Award. Several of their designs have been published and continue to be published in many national magazines, as well as in their books, “The Civilized Jungle” & “The Making of Three Gardens.” Jorge has dedicated many years to zoning and architectural boards for the Town of Palm Beach. He is currently a Director of the Garden Conservancy.
Edwina von Gal creates ecofriendly landscapes with a focus on simplicity and sustainability for private and public clients around the world. She has collaborated with architects such as Frank Gehry, Annabelle Selldorf, Maya Lin, and Richard Meier, on projects for Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Richard Serra, Larry Gagosian, and many others in the design and art community. Her work has been showcased in many major publications and her book "Fresh Cuts" won the Quill and Trowel award for garden writing. She received the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art’s Arthur Ross Award in 2012, and is the 2017 recipient of Guild Hall’s Academy of the Arts Lifetime Achievement Award for the Visual Arts.
Recent honorees include founder of Cullman & Kravis Associates, Ellie Cullman; interior designer David Kleinberg; landscape architect and founder of Sawyer | Berson, Brian Sawyer; and founder and CEO of Delos, Paul Scialla.
The proceeds from this special event will support scholarships for our outstanding students - the future leaders in the field of design.
