Lunch and Learn

Design legend Mario Buatta gave a talk especially for NYSID students at a Lunch & Learn on Monday, September 22. He was his usual jovial self, telling jokes in between stories about his experience growing up (he rearranged furniture in his home at the age of 5), his early influences (Sister Parish and the understated elegance of Colefax & Fowler), and dispensing advice (“If you can’t hide it, decorate it.”) He showed some of his most illustrious projects for the likes of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Mariah Carey, and Barbara Walters, all of which are included in his book, Mario Buatta: Fifty Years of American Interior Decoration.

Buatta has been a long-time friend of the College and our materials library/workspace for students was named in his honor – the Mario Buatta Materials Atelier.
