In 2013, NYSID established its archives in anticipation of its 100th anniversary in 2016. Since then, the majority of NYSID’s institutional collections as well as a number of acquired archives from interior designers and firms have been organized and rehoused according to archival standards. In 2014, Nora Reilly was hired as NYSID’s first official staff archivist.

2015 Holiday House Student Competition

The student winner was Cheryl Sadlowski, BFA ’16, selected by a panel of judges including designers Drew McGukin, Alexa Hampton and Thom Filicia. Cheryl was announced the winner at a celebration at Holiday House on November 16.

Students Help Design Police Precinct in Brownsville

NYSID students are getting the exciting opportunity to design a section of the 73rd Police Precinct in Brownsville, Brooklyn as part of the “People’s Precinct Program,” which is being launched by the NYC Department of Design and Construction and the Town + Gown initiative in an effort to link schools and government through design. Ellen Fisher, NYSID’s vice president for academic affairs and dean, discussed the project on The Policy of Design and Equity panel discussion on Wednesday, October 28 at The Center for Architecture
