Communications Coordinator

Position Overview:

The New York School of Interior Design, an accredited, independent institution of higher education devoted entirely to the discipline of interior design and its related professions, has an opening for a full-time Communications Coordinator.

The Marketing, Communications and Engagement (MCE) Department at the New York School of Interior Design (NYSID) oversees enrollment marketing and advertising, digital and print communications, content strategy, and public programming.

The Communications Coordinator supports a broad range of departmental initiatives across the five-person MCE team, with primary responsibility for project management and content creation and production. This role requires strong organizational skills, excellent writing, editing and proofreading abilities, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment.

The Communications Coordinator will maintain departmental workflows and project management systems, support internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to storytelling and content development across digital and print platforms.

Job Responsibilities:
Project Management & Operations

  • Maintain project timelines, deadlines, and campaign plans for the MCE team

  • Manage workflow and project tracking through departmental project management systems

  • Coordinate marketing and advertising campaigns with external agency partners

  • Manage special projects, including website initiatives, with external consultants

  • Maintain internal communications portal

  • Research, place, and track digital and print advertisements and sponsored content

  • Monitor website, social media, and media analytics

  • Assist with departmental administration, including invoice and receipt processing

Content Creation & Production

  • Write, edit, proofread, and update content for the website, blog, e-newsletters, promotional emails, press releases, advertisements, event announcements, and select college publications, including Atelier, NYSID’s alumni magazine

  • Develop engaging copy and multimedia content for social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube

  • Ensure all communications adhere to institutional style guides and brand standards

  • Format copy and visual assets using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and related tools

  • Support video editing and multimedia production; Adobe Premiere Pro experience preferred

Public Programs & Team Support

  • Assist in developing marketing materials for exhibitions, events, and public programs

  • Staff events as needed, including occasional evening programs

  • Support additional special projects and departmental initiatives as assigned

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of two years of experience in a related field with emphasis in public relations, media relations or social media. Excellent written and verbal communication, strong editing skills. Accuracy, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines are essential. Preference for candidates with an interest/familiarity with interior design. Focused and self-motivated, yet flexible and a team player with the ability to handle multiple projects at once.

Familiarity with Asana, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Webflow, Slate, Jenzabar, Squarespace, Hootsuite, Eventbrite and Meltwater or adjacent programs. Experience with InDesign and Photoshop a plus. Previous experience with these software programs not required, but eagerness to master various platforms and problem solve are key.

Salary: $45,000 + generous benefits
