Communications Coordinator
Position Overview:
The New York School of Interior Design, an accredited, independent institution of higher education devoted entirely to the discipline of interior design and its related professions, has an opening for a full-time Communications Coordinator. The Communications Coordinator supports the Marketing Communications and Engagement (MCE) Department in their efforts to generate public awareness of NYSID’s students, faculty, alumni and College events, exhibitions, and initiatives by creating content for the college’s social media, online and print publications. The Communications Coordinator is expected to take initiative in storytelling about student, faculty and alumni accomplishments; craft compelling content on our various course and program offerings; as well as feature the calendar of events and exhibitions we offer. The person in this role needs to be adept at maintaining and prioritizing simultaneous projects and projects as they will be maintaining the team’s project management system and overseeing workflow for internal clients and external partners.
Job Responsibilities:
Content Strategy
Write, edit and update content: website, event announcements, blog, e-newsletter and select college publications
Develop content (compelling and proofread copy, video, photos) for social media for various platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, and others in line with style guide.
Work cross-functionally with MCE team members to develop externally-facing materials (printed materials, email marketing, etc.)
Draft press releases for special events, exhibitions and initiatives, and coordinate press previews
Track website, social media and press analytics
Public Programs and Exhibitions
Assist in developing marketing materials for promotion
Staff events as needed, occasionally in the evening
Project Management & Production
Assist Senior Communications Coordinator with project managing marketing campaigns and special projects (website) with external consultants to ensure deadlines and tasks are met, using Asana and MS SharePoint
Maintain detailed and up-to-date tasks, deadlines and campaign plans for MCE team in Asana and written assets in MS SharePoint
Research, place and track advertisements and sponsored content in digital and print media
Manage NYSID-placed advertising
Format copy and art across our distribution platforms, using basic design skills
Assist in departmental administration, including processing invoices and receipts
Handle special projects and provide assistance to the MCE team as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required. Some experience in a related field with emphasis in public relations, media relations or social media. Excellent written and verbal communication, strong editing skills. Accuracy, attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines are essential. Preference for candidates with an interest/familiarity with interior design. Focused and self-motivated, yet flexible and a team player with the ability to handle multiple projects at once.
Familiarity with Asana, MS Suite, Squarespace, Hootsuite, Eventbrite and Meltwater or adjacent programs. Experience with InDesign and Photoshop a plus. Previous experience with these software programs not required, but eagerness to master various platforms and problem solve are key.
Salary: $45,000 + generous benefits
